The impact of the Massacre at Wounded Knee is that it was the last real resistance of the Native Americans. On December 29th, 1890 this last massacre ended Native Americans roaming the the plains, and it also ended the fights between Native Americans and the cavalry. The massacre also ended the ghost dance movement because Wovoka was shot and killed.
Wounded Knee has caused controversy between whites people and Natives Americans, in the 1970's Native Americans took over the Wounded Knee site with guns and held it. Today there is still tension because the government wants to make Wounded Knee a landmark, but some Native Americans see them as sacred lands and do not want them to be made into a landmark. So even today Wounded Knee has a lot of controversy.
